The
meeting recorder
that stays on your Mac
Briefwell records Teams, Meet, Zoom, or any app. It transcribes on your Mac, works out who said what, writes the minutes, and posts them where you keep notes.
Q4 roadmap sync
Listening. Lines appear here a few seconds after someone speaks.
Waiting for speech…
Waiting for speech…
So the big question is whether calendar sync ships before the holidays or after.
Before. It's mostly done. I just need to test it with the calmerge feed.
Then I can write the help page this week. Send me the build when it's ready.
One flag from support: people want to pick which calendars count as companies.
Good call. That fits in the same release.
Q4 roadmap sync
With: Alex Kim, Jordan Reyes, Maya Lee, Nick Penree
Summary
Calendar sync ships before the holidays. Nick is testing it against the calmerge feed, Jordan writes the help page this week, and support's ask to pick which calendars count as companies goes into the same release.
Decisions
- Ship calendar sync in the next release
- Let people pick which calendars count as companies
Action Items
- Nick: test calendar sync with the calmerge feed
- Jordan: write the help page
- Maya: reply to the support thread
Try it: hit Stop and Briefwell writes the minutes. The meeting is made up.
Who said what, worked out for you
A raw transcript is a wall of words. Nobody can tell who agreed to what.
Your mic is always you. Everyone else gets named from live captions, the speaking indicator in the call window, and the sound of their voice. Fix one line and that whole voice follows.
Briefwell compared with cloud note takers
Most note takers send a bot into your call and your audio to their servers. Briefwell records on your Mac, so nothing joins and nothing uploads.
| Cloud note bots | ||
|---|---|---|
| Who joins the call | A bot, as a guest everyone sees | Nobody. It listens on your Mac |
| Where the audio goes | Uploaded to their servers | Stays on your Mac |
| Which meetings | The platforms they support | Any app that makes sound, plus in-person |
| Who writes the minutes | Their model | Claude or Apple Intelligence, your pick |
| Where minutes end up | Their app | Apple Notes, Confluence, Notion, or Outline |
| Your recordings | In their cloud | Plain JSON and WAV files on your Mac |
| Account | Sign up required | None |
Minutes ready before your next call
When you hit Stop, the transcript goes to the minutes engine you pick. Only the text, never the audio.
You get a summary, decisions, action items with owners, and open questions. The prompts are yours to edit.

Does calendar picking need its own settings page?
Your meetings stay on your Mac
Meetings are full of things that shouldn't leave the room. Briefwell keeps the recording, the transcript, and the voices on your machine.
On-device speech
Apple's speech engine transcribes on your Mac. Voice matching runs locally too.
No bot in the call
Nothing joins your meeting. Briefwell listens to the app's sound on your Mac.
Text only, if at all
Claude gets the transcript text, never audio. Apple Intelligence keeps even that on your Mac.
Built for every call
Any app or any room, words as they are said, names you fix once, and minutes that land where your team already reads.
Records any app
Taps only the meeting app's sound, plus your mic. Music and alerts stay out.
…then I can write the help page this week
Live transcript
Words show up while people talk, with timestamps on every line.
Publishes where you keep notes
Minutes and the full transcript land in Apple Notes, Confluence, Notion, or Outline.
Fix a name once
Click a name to fix it, for one line or every line from that voice.
AirPods friendly
Won't flip your headphones into call mode and wreck the sound. Lid closed is fine.
In-person meetings
One mic for the whole room. Briefwell splits the voices after.
Frequently asked questions
Something else? Email us and a person replies.
The app
Which apps can it record?
Any app on your Mac that plays sound. Teams, Meet, and Zoom also get name reading from the call window.
Does it work for in-person meetings?
Yes. Pick In Person and Briefwell uses your mic for the whole room, then sorts out the voices after.
Do I need a Claude account?
No. Apple Intelligence can write the minutes on your Mac. Paste a Claude API key if you want longer, sharper minutes.
Where can it publish minutes?
Apple Notes through iCloud, Confluence, Notion, or Outline. Publishing can be one click or automatic.
Which Macs does it run on?
Apple silicon Macs on macOS 26 or later.
Privacy
Do other people in the call get notified?
Nothing joins the call, so Briefwell sends no notice. Follow your local recording laws and tell people you're taking notes.
Where are my recordings?
In a folder on your Mac, one per meeting, as plain JSON and WAV files. Delete them any time.
What gets sent anywhere?
Never audio. Transcript text goes to the minutes engine you pick, and the minutes go where you publish them. Use Apple Intelligence and skip publishing, and nothing leaves your Mac.
Be in the meeting. Briefwell writes it up.
Free during the beta. macOS 26 or later on Apple silicon.
