Privacy Policy
Short version: Briefwell doesn't collect your data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads, and no tracking. Your meetings stay on your Mac unless you send them somewhere.
Who we are
Briefwell is made by ADK Interactive, LLC in New York. Questions go to hello@briefwell.app.
What stays on your Mac
- Audio. Recordings are made and kept on your Mac. They never leave it.
- Transcripts. Speech is transcribed on your Mac by Apple's built-in speech recognition.
- Voices. Telling speakers apart runs on your Mac.
- Meetings and settings. Saved in your Mac's Library folder as plain files you can delete any time.
- Keys and tokens for services you connect are kept in your Mac's Keychain.
We don't receive any of this. We have no servers that store your meetings.
What leaves your Mac, and when
- Writing minutes. With Apple Intelligence, the default, minutes are written on your Mac. If you choose Claude instead, the transcript text, your notes, and attendee names are sent to Anthropic to write the minutes. Audio is never sent.
- Publishing. When you publish, or have auto-publish on, the minutes (and the transcript, if you choose) go to the place you picked: Apple Notes (and iCloud, if your Notes use it), Notion, Confluence, or Outline.
- Calendar. Briefwell reads your calendar to name meetings and see who was invited. With Apple Calendar this stays on your Mac. If you connect a calendar service, Briefwell requests your events from it.
- Speech and voice models. The first time you use it, your Mac downloads speech models from Apple and voice models from Hugging Face. Those requests carry ordinary technical details like your IP address.
- Update checks. Briefwell checks briefwell.app for new versions. That request includes your IP address and the app and macOS versions, and is handled by our host, Cloudflare. We don't use it to identify you.
Services you connect have their own privacy policies, and those apply to what you send them.
Every company involved
- Cloudflare hosts this website, the downloads, and the update check, and keeps standard server logs.
- Fastmail handles email sent to hello@briefwell.app.
- Apple provides speech recognition models, Apple Intelligence, and Notes and iCloud if you publish there.
- Hugging Face serves the voice models Briefwell downloads once.
- Only if you choose them: Anthropic (Claude) for minutes, Notion, Atlassian (Confluence), or Outline for publishing, and the calendar service you connect.
That's the whole list. There's no analytics or crash-reporting company.
Security
Keys and tokens for services you connect are kept in your Mac's Keychain. Updates come over a secure connection, and each one is signed: Briefwell checks the signature and refuses anything that doesn't match before installing. Your meetings are plain files on your Mac, protected by your Mac's login and by FileVault if you have it on.
Where data is processed
The companies above may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States. Privacy laws differ from place to place.
Permissions the app asks for
- Microphone to record your side of a meeting.
- System audio to record the meeting app's sound.
- Accessibility to read the meeting window for captions and who's speaking.
- Calendar to match recordings to events.
- Automation to save minutes in Notes and read meeting windows.
You can turn any of these off in System Settings > Privacy & Security.
This website
briefwell.app uses no cookies and no analytics. It remembers your light or dark choice in your own browser. Our host, Cloudflare, keeps standard server logs, like IP addresses and the pages requested, for security and reliability. If you email us, we'll use your message only to reply; email is handled by Fastmail.
Selling or sharing
We don't sell personal information, share it for advertising, or build profiles. We don't knowingly collect anything from children.
If we're asked, or sold
We hold very little about you: emails you send us, and our host's server logs. We'll share that only if the law requires it, such as a valid court order, or to protect people's safety or our legal rights. If ADK Interactive or Briefwell is sold or merged, what we hold would move with it, and this policy would still apply to it.
Recording other people
Briefwell records what's said in your meetings, including by other people. Please tell people when you're recording and follow the consent laws where you and they are. See the Terms of Use.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects what leaves your Mac, we'll point it out on this site or in the app.
- October 6, 2026. Listed every company involved, and added security, where data is processed, and what happens if we're asked for data or sold.
- October 4, 2026. First published.
